Milton Moss

Out in the wild weather

Most people go indoors when it’s a storm or wild weather, but Milton Moss heads outside to photograph featuring dramatic formations and fast moving clouds. He uses these images as an inspiration for his landscape paintings.

The exhibition features a wonderful array of landscape images – paintings and photographs – from around the Castlemaine-Newstead areas.

About the Artist

Milton Moss – artist, photographer and retired Advertising Art Director – is based in Campbells Creek. This is his first solo exhibition at the Newstead Arts Hub. He was part of the stunning Nature of Colour exhibition at the Hub in 2020.

Milton says: ‘I always loved art and drawing, it was the only thing I was really good at in school. It led me into a career in advertising … and my personal art took a back seat for a number of decades’.

I’m so glad I started again, as life gave me the gaps and time to pursue this love. For the first 5 years, I tried to work out where I fitted in. I copied images I liked and found on the internet, but it wasn’t my creativity.

I have always been a keen wild weather landscape photographer. One day the penny dropped. I combined my two loves, painting these landscapes in oils, using my experience of being out in the weather and my photographs as the inspiration.’
