Patrick will share his knowledge and experience acquired in becoming an accomplished nature photographer, with a special ‘focus’ on woodland birds of the Newstead district and their habitats. The workshop offers personal tuition on photographic techniques and fieldcraft.
This workshop will start at finish at Newstead Arts Hub and will involve gentle walking outdoors.
Patrick developed a serious habit of nature photography in 2011 after borrowing a camera to photograph some Square-tailed Kates nesting near his home in Strangways. This condition has progressed, nourished by online communities of constructive feedback and camaraderie. Patrick has found photography to be an excellent method to see what can’t easily be seen by eye and to learn about our precious woodland species. He spends too much time in the field and learning how to get the most out of processing his images.
Life with Birds is an immersive celebration of the birds and woodland ecosystems of central Victoria curated by Geoff Park, presented by Newstead Arts Hub in partnership with Castlemaine State Festival.
Life of Birds brings together a distinguished range of collaborators – writers, artists, photographers, sound recordists, field naturalists and scientists. The various events enable participants to enjoy and learn whilst on the path to deeper appreciation of the richness of our birdlife – which is facing many challenges, especially that of global climate change.
The proceeds of this diverse and rich program of events will be dedicated to a community designed citizen science woodland conservation project in central Victoria, and to the Newstead Arts Hub.
