The land tells us its story; geology helps us to read it

Back by popular demand former Mayor and member of Friends of Box Ironbark Forests Christine Henderson will bring the Ancient Loddon to life in her Geology Talk where something that happened recently was 4 million years ago.

“People have been commenting about how much they enjoyed Christine’s geology talk. They loved her passion for the subject and obvious delight in the new discoveries that have turned geological study on its head Christine had us all thinking 50million years into the past and left people eager to hear more about the geological formation of the Newstead area. with an enthusiasm for the subject and storytelling flair more akin to a radio commentator than a dry academic talk. I can’t wait to hear what she has to present with a deeper dive into the Ancient Loddon accompanied by a slide show. I’m really looking forward to peoples questions and some engaging conversation afterwards.”
Forest Keegel artist and coordinator Weaving the River

Weaving the River is a community arts project that celebrates the community’s connection to the Loddon River. It is funded by Regional Development Victoria under their Tiny Towns banner and led by artists Aunty Marilyne Nicholls, Roger Mckindley and Forest Keegel. The project will culminate in a sculptural fence at the front of the Arts Hub that reflects stories of connection to the river. Our stories will be embedded into the fence as an ongoing tribute to our relationship with the river.

On River Story Day Christine Henderson spoke for 15 minutes in Laurel Freeland’s Yarning Circle and passed some diagrams around under a peppercorn tree at the former railway station, Newstead Arts Hub.
